About my Experience
It started when I was 13.
2018
I was first introduced to my Kenyan friends by my dance teacher and the founder of The Humanity Share, Kristin Naylor. She approached my mom and I with the offer of accompanying her to Kenya the following fall. I was ecstatic and soon enough packing my bags.
The First Trip
My first trip was the biggest learning experience of my life. As a fourteen year old, the hardest part of the trip were the spiders. My favorite part was meeting the girls that would soon become my lifelong friends. I was introduced to Dignity Kits and fell in love with the idea of boosting a girl’s inner self worth simply through basic needs. But the minute I found out each girl only got one pair of underwear and one pack of pads per year, is the minute I started Grace for Dignity.
2019
I spent the following year solidifying the goals of Grace for Dignity. Each girl was to get one dignity kit at the start of each school semester, and with almost triple the supplies. I planned my first event on International Women’s day and began my fundraising. The little money I raised was enough to give me the motivation to fundraise for a lifetime.
The Second Trip
My second trip was just as amazing as the first. But this time I went in with a clear goal, deliver the kits! I took the money I fundraised, went to the supermarket and bought the supplies, packaged the kits, and handed them to each sponsored girl. The response from the girls created an atmosphere of love and gratitude that pushed me to do my best for them.
